Wayne Rooney Hoping to Open World Cup Account

June 19th, 2010 . by admin

During the second half of England’s game against the USA, star striker Wayne Rooney showed his commitment to the cause by regularly helping out Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard in midfield. The Manchester United striker’s tireless work ethic often divides opinion; there are those who would prefer that he lead the line and lurked dangerously near the opposition penalty box, instead of expending valuable energy tracking back to put in tackles in midfield. There is, of course, no doubting Rooney’s goal threat. He bagged 34 goals in all competitions for Manchester United this season despite straining ankle ligaments in a Champions League tie in Munich and suffering from other niggling injuries towards the end of the season. If Gareth Barry is fit to return for England’s game against Algeria on Friday, the extra ballast in midfield should allow Rooney the freedom to do what he does best.
